No, I am not going mom, said the son still looking out of the window and moving his head side wise.
We are not arguing over it anymore, your dad told you what to do last night and you also agreed. Now there is no point starting over it once again, his mom said in a decisive tone.
For god sake mom, it is just a car. I am buying it and I am thankful for all you have done for me but please this time let me decide what I want, the son shouted at her mom, without looking at her, he was still looking out of his window trying to figure out why the sun had not yet come out.
Probably it was hiding behind the dark clouds, not even a single ray could be seen.
I do not understand what has gone wrong with you overnight. We have taken good decisions for you. What makes you think that your dad is wrong this time? We have always.....
He cut her short. "Mom this is not about the good or the bad. This is about you guys choosing for me, always. Do I get a chance to do what I like? I can be wrong so can you and so can dad.” he saw his dad standing behind the door and surprisingly this time he did not keep mum at the sight of his father. His almost started shouting so that his voice could reach his father.
I wanted to study something else but you made me become an engineer, I did not refuse. I wanted to do a job, have fun in my life, take a break from 22 year study life, you asked me to study further, and I did not refuse.
Even now, the job I am doing is not of my choice, It is what you think is suitable for me, suggestions from your friends, your aunt, your high school teacher always count, but it never matters what I want.
Now at least let me buy a car of my choice. Ask me what I want, do not tell me what you think is good for me. That's all I am now capable of doing without your support, please let me do that.
His parents could not understand what and when things went wrong, they were always the good parents, he always was an obedient, error-free, and a perfect son.
He moved past his parents, both of them flabbergasted at this sudden outburst of emotions. They did not understand anything.
His parents sat on the floor looking at each other and they did not say a single word. An hour passed like this.
A car honked outside the door and both the parents looked out of the window, they saw their son getting out of his brand new car, an SUV it was, and not a Sedan which they thought would be suitable for their son, as it would suit his personality.
Their son was smiling and smilingly he opened the main door of the house.
Thud.
A door opened and his mom entered inside his room. Her son was still sleeping, she asked him to get up and get ready within half an hour. They had reached back home after a long and tiring journey, from Golden Temple to Delhi, all drive by her son, she was very proud of her son.
The son got up, looked out of the window, saw his father giving instructions to the servant about how to clean a car, a new car, a brand new Sedan, bought by his son, suggested by the parents.
As her mother left his room, she said, "Do not wear that red tie, and wear the one your father gifted to you on your birthday that would suit you more. Rohini likes red color”
Rohini was the name of the girl he was getting engaged with. She was his mother’s choice. He did not know if he liked Rohini or not. It did not matter although, not to him, not to anybody.
The son looked at his red tie; he had bought it for 5,000 rupees. He threw it on the floor and closed the door of his room.
His mother was still standing outside his room; she could hear the thud of the door closing behind her.
Although she did not hear what her son said while closing the door.
Fucking Dreams was all he could say.
